…Sweeten The Deal

Posted on the 15 October 2016 by Zer @the2women

Another day, another sweet holiday. Today, we celebrate Sweetest Day.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Sweetest Day is like Valentine’s Day, but in the fall. Because apparently one greeting card/candy company holiday isn’t enough.

Apologies for the cynicism, but this one truly was invented by the candy industry. It started in Cleveland in 1921 as a day to promote “romantic gestures and expressions of love.” It was also created by a group of local confectioners, so take from that what you will.

Since then, it’s been celebrated on the third Saturday of October. Slowly expanding each year to terrorize more and more innocent people. You’ll notice I didn’t specify singles. If anything this holiday is more of an outrage for couples. It’s another obligatory “candy and flowers” holiday to add to their calendar.

While the idea of showing some appreciation for the loved ones in your life is sweet, do you really need a holiday to remind you? Isn’t it more sincere and heartfelt if you do it on a day that isn’t a holiday?

If you do choose to celebrate today, well I promise to try not to judge…especially if you’re just in it for the free candy. Happy Sweetest Day!
