Swooning Over the Years – Confessing to Celebrity Crushes

Posted on the 30 July 2013 by Yourfamilysurvivalcoach @shari_brewer

When I read that the weekly get-it-off-your-chest link-up hosted by Kirsty over at her place, My Home Truths, this time was about ‘fessing up to your celebrity crushes, I was IN. My celebrity crushes of youth were often made public by being plastered on the cover of my brown-paper covered school books, before  of course being carefully guarded under a layer of contact to preserve handsomeness forever more. Now, I’m a big girl there’s Google Images, Facebook and Instagram which allows a more discreet perve and saves an awful lot on brown paper and contact!

Luckily, a few of my youthful celebrity crushes were not considered mainstream hunks, which I’m sure worked to my advantage as this meant they could then feature exclusively in my dreams and fantasies … and no-one else’s!! Hahaha, yeah right, but feature in my dreams they did and without any further delay and in no particular order ……  ta-da here are some of the celebrity blokes that have made my heart skip beats over the years ……

Shaun Cassidy

Now this spunky young bloke was my first ever celebrity crush. Isn’t he cute to boot? I’ll own up and say that his superb portrayal of one of the Hardy Boys in the late 1970s TV show of the same name had me glued to the tele each and every week. It really was true lurvvve.

In sourcing this image, I of course stumbled upon some more recent pics and let me tell you he has aged A-ok, considering the Hollywood lifestyle.

John Taylor

I think every teen girl in the world adored Duran Duran and although the band had five members it really was a two spunk race between John Taylor and Simon LeBon as to who was the dreamiest. I was firmly on team Taylor and was beyond certain that one day I would indeed be known to the world as Mrs John Taylor. Unfortunately, he was never lucky enough to meet me. His loss.

Greedy Smith

He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I absolutely had a thing for Mental as Anything’s Greedy Smith. In the 80s and early 90s I really did think he was a bit alright and as most other Mental as Anything fans lusted after the sultry Martin Plaza, it’s obvious then that Greedy could then be all mine.

I’ve this photo here taken of me and Greedy after a Mentals performance in 2004 and because I was married and very unavailable you can really see the sadness and wistful “what ifs” in his eyes, can’t you? In my eyes, you can probably see the beginnings of an horrific hangover …

Mark Waugh

Forever and a day I’ve been an avid elite armchair sportswoman and will happily watch nearly any sporting contest other than darts, lawn bowls, sailing and golf. Cricket is one of my favourite sports and this Waugh brother one of my favourite cricketers. A graceful batsman, handy with the ball when called upon and I always thought him easy on the eye. Was I silly mid-on, maybe?

Karl Stefanovic

I’ll put it out there and tell you that Karl Stefanovic, to this day, remains a celebrity crush of mine. Yes, the farmer knows that I fancy Karl a little bit but bless him, feels unthreatened all the same. I know that Karl polarises his audience and most Australians either love or loathe him with little feeling in between but, aside from meeting all the handsome criteria on my spunk checklist, I really do love this bloke’s cheekiness and sense of humour. I think that Karl and I would get on like the proverbial house on fire if he were only lucky enough to ever meet me.

I’d love to hear whether any of these chaps have sent your heart fluttering too …. or maybe you think I’m on a totally different planet. So fess up too, who have you had a celebrity crush on?

Sharing this to two links today: the weekly confessional over at Kirsty’s My Home Truths and the fabulous Tuesday #IBOT party over at Essentially Jess. Well worth exploring both for some great blog reading!
