Everything that happened over the course of the last thirty summertime days:

In My Ears

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (They should get together with Florence and the Machine and have multiple tambourine shaking babies… and by babies I mean songs.)

Hedwig and the Angry Inch Soundtrack (Forever and Always)

Cat Power (she’s the tits)

A BUNCH of “You Made it Weird” and “J.V. Club” and “Sex Nerd Sandra” podcasts.

 In My Eyes

Watched:

Kate Winslet movies (viewed after midnight, by the light of the moon, with the kind of reverence typically reserved for church.) Holy Smoke, Heavenly Creatures, The Reader, Iris

The Killing (because my life is not complete without an uber-dark crime drama)

An overwhelming amount of “Long Island Medium,” thrust upon me by my mother.

David Attenborough nature docs… because he’s my imaginary 80-year-old boyfriend. I mean, look at his face.

Speaking of imaginary boyfriends, I also love River Monsters.

Pete Holmes: Nice Try The Devil

Kristen Schaal’s half hour

Maria Bamford’s Ask My Mom and The Maria Bamford Show because she’s AWESOME

Read:

This column by Cheryl Strayed with advice for 20-somethings

Stephen King’s On Writing for the bajillionth time.

Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit (I think it’s my favorite creativity book)

“The Shining Girls” by Lauren Beukes, “A Discovery of Witches” by Deborah Harkness (both of which I didn’t like.) They’re good books by all accounts. I just couldn’t get into them for vague, ethereal reasons relating to my personal taste.

I delved into Longform.org and read a bunch of articles on Stevie Nicks, John Waters and numerous serial killers…

I re-read “Life’s Swell” by Susan Orlean because it’s my all-time favorite article (and the movie “Blue Crush” was based on it)

I also read about Isadora Duncan’s death because it’s so horrifically ironic… scarves are DANGEROUS… that’s all I’m going to say…

In My Heart (objects of love and lust)

Wendy Davis!!! (a goddess on earth)

Jesse Eisenberg is super sexy

Frida Kahlo (always)

Jared Leto, especially when he gender-bends

Chris O’Dowd (PERFECT. MAN.)

Mama Cass (R.I.P.)

Monarch butterflies and tiger lilies!

Nail polish the color of red wine

In My Brain (stuff I created, due to wildly misfiring synapses because COFFEE.)

1001 Half-Naked Ladies

Life Avec Parents

I made a pin board of Witchy Tips, if you’re interested.
