I’ll admit 2017 had its shortcomings. Like any year, there were ups and downs. In many ways, I’d argue 2017 was a good year especially for women. It may not have been perfect, but it’s a stepping stone on the way to a better year and a better world.Of course, the year started with a global march powered by women. Beyond marching in the streets, 2017 saw an exponential rise in the number of women running for political office.
If politics aren’t your thing, well then consider the top three highest grossing films of the year. They all starred female leads. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” stole the top spot from “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Wonder Woman,” came in third. One of those films even had a female director, so I think we can put that in the win column for 2017.
There was a lot of other noise coming out of Hollywood this year. The exposure of a toxic culture of abuse by those in power led to a broader conversation and the spreading of the #MeToo movement.
In Saudi Arabia, women even won the right to drive (eventually). All in all, there was a lot of good that happened this year.
And guys, if you’re feeling left out, remember that gender equality benefits everyone.
On that note, I’ll leave you to enjoy the rest of 2017. It wasn’t a perfect year, but it kept us moving forward.
Wishing all of our crusaders a new year that brings with it all that you could wish for and more. See you in 2018!
…just for fun:
