Tarot Tip #6: Multiple Decks

Posted on the 13 August 2013 by Bunnysunday @missbunnysunday

Always have two tarot decks.

Keep one for readings and one for use in spells, mood boards, rituals and general witchiness.

The deck you choose for readings should live with you. Meditate with the cards, sleep with them under your pillow, shuffle them constantly so they absorb your energy and you get used to their energy.

The extra deck is for incorporating the Tarot into your rituals and celebrations. Tape a card to your bathroom mirror or carry one in your wallet. Want love? Choose the Lovers card. Want success? Try the Sun. Put cards on your altar or incorporate them into a vision board or mood board. Trying to quit smoking? Tuck the Devil card into your cigarette package. If eating is your problem, stick the Devil card to your fridge with a magnet.

The first deck should be a traditional Tarot deck with functionality being its main purpose. Rider-Waite decks are a good place to start. The second deck can be a more symbolic deck. Choose one with big, easy to interpret symbols that will catch your eye from across the room.

Examples:

The Hello Kitty deck is oversized and has clear, simple images which are great for use in visualizations, on boards or in spells. The Zerner-Farber deck is playing card sized and has more traditional images, making it more suitable for practical use.
