The 3 Main Learning Styles Every Parent Should Know

As the exam dates approach, your child will likely have started their revision or will be looking to start very soon. As well as of course sitting down and putting in the work, it’s important for children to establish which learning style they have and learn a little more about themselves. This will help make their time spent revising more effective, efficient, and possibly even enjoyable. While there is a broad range, there are three main learning styles that we all fall into which every parent should know. Below is some guidance that we’ve put together with a college well known for their one year GCSE programmes and helping students transform their grades.

The Visual Learning Style

Learning for this type of learner should be visual as the name suggests. They find it easy to absorb information when it's presented in the form of graphs and charts.

The Auditory Learning Style

Auditory learners on the other hand prefer to learn through instruction and have concepts explained. For children with this learning style, you may find videos on topics helpful.

The Kinaesthetic Learning Style

Unlike the other learning styles, those belonging to this category need the chance to be able to apply what they’ve learned out in the real world. It can be trickier of the bunch to accommodate but just involves a little imagination - there are learning opportunities everywhere!

How to Work out Which Your Child Has

It’s very easy to work out which learning style children have and as their parents you may be able to make a judgment based on how they pick up instructions and prefer doing things day to day. If however the answers are not so clear, a VARK survey is a nice way to determine which learning style your child has. All they will need to do is answer a series of personality questions honestly and wait for the results.
