The Addams Family, #810

It’s that time of year again:  Halloween!!!  For those who know me, you all know that Halloween is a very favorite holiday of mine.  I love the spookiness and the fall colors and the pumpkins and the MUSIC!  There are so many good Halloween songs, but this past week, I’ve been teaching the theme song to “The Addams Family.”  The kids all love it even though most of them have only seen the movies and not the TV show.  So, I’m thinking of this hilariously frightening ideal American family today and thought I’d give you all a little bit of Addam’s Family trivia.

(1)  First of all, did you all know the The Addam’s family started off as panel cartoons by Charles Addams and was published in “The New Yorker” beginning in 1938 and continued all the way up until 1988?  Check this out!

(2) The Addams Family  TV show aired from 1964-1966, but since then, there have been many other adaptations of “The Addams Family:”  The 1972 Scooby Doo movies, an animated series that ran from 1973-1975, a television reunion movie in 1977, a Saturday morning cartoon from 1992-1993, “The New Addams Family” TV series from 1998-1999, and of course, the widely popular movies also made in the 1990′s.

(3) The Addams Family musical was staged on Broadway at  the Ford Center for the Performing Arts from November 13, 2009 to January 10, 2010.  It starred Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia.

(4)  The premier of the Addams Family TV show aired within one week of the premier of its rival show, “The Munsters.”  ”The Munsters” beat “The Addams Family” in the Nielsen ratings.

There are so many fun trivia facts to read online about this beloved family of American pop culture, and I have to tell you all…I have really enjoyed thinking about them once again.  What always struck me about the show was the relationship between Gomez & Morticia.  They were always so good to each other and so in love.  Seriously….I know its fictional and perhaps a little weird of me, but next time you watch them, take note.

The fact is, The Addams Family still rocks, and I can attest that the kids I teach the song to are still taken with this really fun family.  So, click HERE to listen and watch the theme song on Youtbe.  Feel free to sing along.  I know you’ll want to.
