Oh football season - you are finally upon us.
With NFL preseason in full swing and college football right around the corner, I thought I would share one of my favorite recipes. We invited a bunch of friends over to watch the NYG vs. Steelers preseason game this weekend and it was the perfect excuse to light up the grill and turn on our deep fryer.
Bratwurst are a big deal in our family. I mean, who doesn't love a good brat?
Today I am bringing you my recipe for the best beer bratwurst ever. This recipe will help you make the juiciest brats and is so incredibly easy! Feel free to cut the recipe in half if you are making it for a smaller crowd.
Use high quality brats and try not to use "light" beer. This past weekend we used Dos Equis and it worked great.
The Best Beer Brats Ever
10 brats
- 10 good quality bratwurst (We like Johnsonville)
- 3 beers
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1. Place large stockpot on your stove over high heat. Melt butter and sauté onions for 5-7 minutes. Add in beers and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil and then reduce to medium heat to keep a low simmer.
2. Heat up the grill. Brats always taste the best over wood chips or charcoal. You don't want to cook these over high, direct heat, so make sure your coals have gone gray or cook the brats after you are done cooking the other meat you are grilling (ie, hamburgers, etc).
3. Pierce each brat 3 times with a fork. Place the bratwurst in the simmering beer mixture in your stockpot. Make sure all brats are covered with the beer. Let the brats cook in the beer mixture for 20-25 minutes.
4. Turn the stove down to low. Remove the bratwurst from the beer and place on the grill. Cook the brats for 7-10 minutes on each side, but flip them frequently so they do not burn. This is key! Almost constant rotation will ensure your brats don't turn black.
5. Place grilled brats back in the beer mixture until ready to eat. This lets them soak up extra liquid and keeps them super juicy.
Grab a bun, some ketchup and spicy mustard or even some sauerkraut if you fancy...Enjoy!
