In every mainstream movie we watch there will be a bunch of actors who stand out for their performances even though their screen won’t be much. I would like to call that the screen presence. What if a movie made with just those bunches of actors who can really act. One such a movie is “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”. The story is a group of retired old age people visit India and reserve in the retirement hotel, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”. When they come here they see not the hotel they say in the website but rather an old palace kind without proper cleaning. They all get annoyed and without choice they stay in the hotel, then day by day the hotel and the country start growing on them. The screenplay is enough to give them screen space to act. I don’t want to divulge more into the details of the screenplay, camera and so on aspects. I watched the movie recently in star movies. It was broadcasted right after ratatouille. So I googled about the movie whether to watch or not. The poster itself was enough to convince me to watch the movie.
The cast consists of many names but the important name which made me to see is Professor Minerva McGonagall/Violet Crawley, Billy Mack, M, Leny Cole/Falcone or in other words Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Judi Dench and Tom Wilkinson. This was enough for me to watch the movie and they never failed as usual. This movie relies heavily on them along with a romance story of Dev Patel as Sonny who wants to establish the hotel as a grand place. This is a kind of movie where you don’t expect much of thinking but feel goodness. As we expect the director and writers deliver it to us perfectly. I never felt a minute bored in the movie. Even in the midst excruciatingly non innovative jarring advertisements in the middle the movie played a sweet melody, Thanks to Star Movies. The background music was really background and supported the movie very well. It was a nice touch of adding some Indian flavor. Somehow the feel of the movie reminded me of Darjeeling Limited despite the story being entirely different other than story take place in India.
This movie is a kind of movie which occurs rarely where you get chance to see great actors doing the roles independently without any star pressure. Watch this movie and at the end you will see a silver lining.
