The Best Of Special: Wedisson Award Winning Wedding Photography

Posted on the 05 August 2016 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

I'm really thrilled to bring you a special 'best of' blog today, for one of my favourite wedding images has been honoured in the 17th Collection Wedisson awards with a 'best wedding photography' award!

The Wedisson Award is an international wedding photography contest, providing creative, outstanding, inspirational and artistic wedding photography. As such, this is a real honour to have this wedding photograph chosen to receive an award.

I really, REALLY love this image and what it means. This wedding shoot took place in two parts; this image was taken at Charmouth Beach, Dorset, before we moved on to Lyme Regis, just along the coast. The Jurassic Coast is a real favourite place of mine and as such it was a real thrill to be able to create some lovely wedding images here. Not only that, the couple actually got engaged on the beach at Lyme Regis, so this location was really meaningful to them too. As a Dorset wedding photographer, I know we are really spoilt for choice for locations here, particularly along the coast.

It was a super-hot day in July and the beach was absolutely filled with tourists, but amazingly we managed to find a quiet, peaceful location where we could make the most of the gorgeous views. This shot was actually one of the very first we took at this session, which is testament to how easy the couple were to work with and what a strong sense they had for how they wanted their wedding photographs to look. I could photograph them over and again very day of my working life and I know still come up with new and creative images!

I also think this image is a great inspiration to other couples and a reminder that your wedding photographs can be anything or anywhere you choose. Couples wedding portraits are often unnecessarily limited to that short period between your ceremony and the wedding breakfast - and the location that happens to take place in may not be the most meaningful to you, or create the feel you really want for your wedding photographs. So don't be afraid to think big. Your wedding photographs can literally be anything or anywhere you choose. That's right. ANYTHING OR ANYWHERE. So don't let tradition limit your vision. Let your creativity run free, make the world your oyster, and allow your wedding photographer to do the same. In that way, you'll have wedding photographs that make your heart sing.
