The Big Brother I Never Had.

When I was a little kid, I always wanted to have a big brother.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my older sister dearly, and I wouldn't trade her for the world, but there was always a certain appeal to having an older brother.
In years to come, I would have male friends who I would always hope would end up becoming "like an older brother," but that never really happened. Partly because most of the guys I became friends with who would potentially end up fitting that role...weren't actually older than me, so in my head, it just didn't work. They might be a super awesome "brother," but they weren't an "older brother."
Tomorrow, my big sister gets married. Everything is done (for the most part) and months of planning will come to fruition in a beautiful ceremony and reception. At the end of it all, I will finally have a big brother.
(If you want to be technical, I have an older brother-in-law, but really...who cares that much about technicalities?)
Ever since Patrick and I met, we immediately fell into a pretty standard big brother/little sister semi-antagonistic relationship. We would goof around and tease each other, but there was no doubt in my mind that Patrick was a great guy and absolutely wonderful for my sister.
A couple of years ago, my sister and I swapped pieces of clothing. She had a gold sweater I really liked and I had this purpleish plaid dress that she really liked, so we swapped the clothing for a semester. Well...it turns out Patrick remembered that dress and has been begging me since then to just give it permanently to Christina. I think he secretly thinks it's gonna be my wedding gift to them...sorry Patrick, but you're out of luck. :P
Christina and Patrick's relationship was a bit back and forth for a little while, and in January 2011, they were currently not together. One Tuesday evening, I was sitting in Einstein's (the coffee shop at CNU) with three guy friends when my phone buzzed. I opened a text message from Patrick that read, "So...I hear you might know about these rings with shiny rocks on them that your sister might like?" I flipped out.
I immediately jumped up and ran outside, because service in the coffee shop/library is not so bueno and I didn't have enough of a signal to call. So I called Patrick and said, "OH MY GOSH ARE YOU GOING TO PROPSE???????"
Turns out he wasn't going to propose (yet), he just wanted to freak me out, and freak me out he did. They had gotten back together (this time ended up being the last time) and Patrick asked Christina if he could be the one to tell me.
I came back into Einsteins after I hung up the phone and all my friends were like, "What the heck happened? Every single person looked at you when you ran out."
Pretty much since Patrick and Christina got back together, I've been waiting for the proposal to happen, and I was ecstatic when it finally happened.
I'm so blessed to have the family I have and the big sister that I have and I'm so excited to finally have a big brother. So welcome to the family, Patrick. :)
