The Butterfly Girl

Posted on the 14 September 2015 by Meera
The drizzle started as I hopped 1..2.. and 3.. into the slow moving MTC bus. I found a window seat in that half vacant bus and quickly took my seat. After settling there comfortably, I placed my backpack next to me and looked around. There she was sitting right behind me. I took a breath to consume what I saw.
Man... She was gorgeous..! How did I miss seeing her before taking my seat. My greedy eyes cursed me for missing out such a beauty. She was like a beauty spot in the bus. I should have waited and sat adjacent to her. Now I have to turn every time to have a good look at her. Ah! no wonder I was in a hurry like always as if I was going to catch the flight or something, Damn... I grouched myself.
It was a late Sunday evening and I was returning from my friend’s party. In a chill weather, it was drizzling. I know cruises are treat for the eyes and I was hoping this bus journey to be cruise after seeing her. We both were sitting by the window seats and I was preparing myself for a second look at her. Making up a reason of adjusting my stole around the neck, I tilted my head casually to get a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eyes. I knew that I’m not allowed to sneak, but she was irresistible in her attire.
She was playing with the rain drops splashing on the window bars. The rain drops on her fingers glittered like diamonds and she was in her own world of joy. As she noticed me hogging her with my big eyes, she became conscious, pulled her hands back and removed the earphones quickly. I could faintly hear the melodies as she adjusted her flowing hair behind her ears revealing that gold sleek earrings and she twinkled a smile. That moment, I had those flapping butterfly effect inside me. She was so appealing. The sleeveless silk cotton blouse revealed her fair waxed arms. Her slender wrist had a slinging sleek golden watch with a butterfly chain attached to it. I felt an urge to talk to her. *But how?* I was down with my fate. I should have waited a minute.. then perhaps I would have got a chance to sit with her.
'Ticket please!',  the bus conductor flashed his hands in front of my face. I turned on the sideways and pretended as if I was searching for some change in my wallet. While she handed the money and said 'Tambaram' *a sweet voice...* I turned my head towards her direction wishing I was not making it obvious. My mind was counting the number of bus stops till she gets down *Crazy me*. Her red and beige wallet with a clinging butterfly chain caught my attention. Her beautiful slim fingers with neatly manicured nails were clutching the wallet closely to her chest. Her dangling butterfly earrings and that cute matching necklace accessorized her whole outfit elegantly and made her look ravishing in that flowy colorful chiffon saree. She really was a fluttering butterfly girl.

Breezy wind ruffled inside and brushed her hair lightly and made it fall on her flawless face. She moved away her hair gently and wetted her lips with her sharp tongue. Everything was in slow motion for my eyes, frame by frame of a complete beauty. I came back to my reality... then handed the change and collected my ticket and I smiled at her voluntarily *It was more like an eeeeeee..*. Thank God my wide open mouth was not drooling. She responded gently. I couldn't help taking her out of my head. I badly wanted to talk to her at least before the bus reached her stop. *God, will I get the chance?*
Altogether in those few minutes of travel with my frequent few seconds of glimpse, that girl consumed me wholly. While I was lost in my own thoughts of her exquisite charm... Someone tapped my shoulder. I jerkily came back to my senses and turned around to see. There she was standing like an elegant angel... 'Hi.. umm..', pointing at her seat, 'Water started flowing in there. Can you please move your bag a little.. so.. I can sit here…!'. I looked at the other seats that was almost all taken by that time. It was like butterflies flying around my head at that moment. *God you heard me! Tusi great ho!*
I concealed my excitement and replied, 'Yeah sure...' I took my backpack and placed it on my lap. I almost slipped doing that and she grabbed it to prevent my bag from falling on the wet bus floor. I touched her fingers, one of them wearing a designer butterfly ring. There was a spry moment of 'Ooops..' and 'It’s okay'. She then sat next to me, 'Thanks..' Her mild jasmine scent blew my senses away. I was lost in the world of her blissful fragrance. *Speak to her... you may not get another chance...* a voice in my head drove me crazy and was forcing me to initiate a conversation.
I   : Hi.. umm.. seems you're fond of butterflies..
She  :  *raising her eyebrows curiously, she waves her wallet* Ah.. this one?I :  *feeling comfortable..*   Yeah and.. er.. also these *pointing to her accessories* They are very pretty. She : Ha Ha. Thanks.. and your Burberry stole is so cool. It caught my eyes ever since I got into the bus.. *giggles* By the way, I am Catherine.I :  I am Sarah. By the way, I have been wanting to ask you this..Where did buy your earrings?
*All Smiles*
