The Dark Winter Season

The dark winter season  When the sun is not shining, the city of Copenhagen seems a bit gray in the wintertime. The days are short -  it is dark when you go to work and it is dark when you come back home ... one could say that  the city is hibernating.  The dark winter season Maybe it is the darkness and the dim light- together with the cold wind blowing from the sea - that is affecting the mood of the people. As soon as the spring arrives, the smiles begin to blossom at peoples faces again.

Can you find the person in this picture?

There is something cozy with the dim afternoons and dark evenings. If you go for a walk, you may see the starry sky and try to find the North Star - that is, if it doesn't rain. It it rains, you can enjoy the raindrops drumming agains the windows. And if it snows, the snow will paint the landscape white, weawing a light and soft blanket over the streets and parks. This year we've been lucky - it has been snowing a bit every now and then. The dark winter season
The local market square has two rows of trees to the left from the fountain.Under the trees there are lights, reflecting upon the trees, creating a bit of a magical atmosphere.

I often light a candle when we're having dinner - another little wintery tradition.Tea in candlelight is one of the top pleasures of the dark winter season.  "There are two ways of spreading light:to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." Edith Wharton
