the High Desert Museum, Lunch & a Hat

Hi guys! Thanks so much for all your comments on my 1/2 Marathon post. I still can’t believe I did it.

Okay so here we are in Sunriver Oregon. It’s a fun little resort community in the high desert.

Monday

Here’s 3 pictures from Monday…

On Monday I was still pretty tired and sore from my race so we kept the day pretty low key with lunch out in the Sunriver Village and walking around looking at the shops.

Tuesday

Yesterday we went to lunch in Bend after everyone did their morning bike rides, walks and strolls by the river.

Max and I were in charge of finding us some yummy BBQ for lunch.

We found a great little place not too far from the main road in Bend. It’s a little confusing since their name is Country Catering… when it comes to eating local, stuff like this is normally a great sign.

It’s a BBQ joint that was originally started in Santa Barbara, CA and moved to bend about 15 years ago. They mostly cater locally but they do serve lunch and dinner to people who’ll come by.

I ordered the BBQ chicken with a side of potato salad and baked beans. I splurged and drank a can of Diet Coke.

The chicken was BOMB-delicious.

The potatoes had a really pickley flavor which I LOVEd. The beans were so sweet from brown sugar that I drank them and licked the Styrofoam cup.

Mom also had the chicken while Max, Dad and Jaemen had various versions of tri-tip sandwiches.

Our table was getting lots of ‘your crazy’ glances since we all licked our plates in unison.

After lunch we headed to the High Desert Museum to learn all about the local wildlife, climate, and the history of Oregon.

We love going to this museum. First, we walk around the history and art exhibits on the inside.

Then we ventured outside to see all the animals. But not before we passed a vending machine and I hugged it like a best friend I hadn’t seen in 6.8 years and bought some skittles.

The bald eagles were really cool and HUGE. I didn’t realize they were so big. The porcupine, who is my favorite was sleeping and the river otter was napping too… boo naps!

But Max and I did make friends with some turtles.

Then we headed home for some hot tubbing, beer drinking and movie watching.

… It is vacation after all.

Here’s a little taste of our lives on vacation.

Playing weird fun games we find in our bedroom closets.

Tasting some local beers.

bbqing on the patio.

eating peaches from the secret stash I packed in the legs of my boots.

hot tubbing and eating skittles… together!

Enjoying the patio (more than the inside of our house).

Sitting on this very squishy 30 person couch.

Happy Vacation everyone!!!
