I was really happy that I had a long weekend last weekend. This work week has really been crampin' my style. It's nice that the long weekend made it a 4 day work week! We hired a newb at work and training always tests my patience. This is the 3rd person I've trained and I think that I am getting the hang of how to be a good trainer/ manager. Back to the REAL story. Last weekend we went up to the cabin and had such a great time in the freezing temperatures! I love getting out to that place! It allows you to breathe fresh air mentally and physically! It felt so nice to get out of the house without the babies and just have some Miki and Jared time. Of course, we were with 2 of his brothers and their girls. Regardless there was still plenty of time for us to get away from our daily routines and enjoy one another's company! I definitely not enjoy hiking up to the cabin after the sun had gone down with all of our luggage. Yeah.. the cabin is that far out of society. There is a road that goes up but Jareds TL doesn't have AWD or 4WD so we most likely won't make it up there. We park at the bottom and hike up. We spent the first night eating our tinfoil dinners, watching movies, putting together puzzles, playing foozball, ping pong and atari. Then Jared and I brought down pads and slept next to the warm fire. Perfect Saturday night!
The next morning we hiked up this mountain that was probably the size of Everest. I swear when I looked at it from the bottom, I was thinking that hill isn't so bad. Then I carried up a sled and hiked in 3 feet of powder where my knees touch my chest with every single step and all the sudden the hill becomes a giant mountain. It took us like 20 minutes to hike up to the top and only 5 seconds to sled down. I only hiked to the top once... yeah yeah shove it! I was so exhausted and my face was bright red and freezing after my one run down where I happened to roll about 3 times and end in a face plant in the snow! After that little adventure I decided I would hike up 10 feet and sled down for 1 second. I got the same amount of joy out of that ride, so I stuck with it.
This is my twin-in-law, Josh, and his friend, Kim snowboarding and crashing down the mountain. Now, that's good entertainment!
After the sledding was over Jared and I decided instead of driving with everyone else that we would sled all the way from the mountain back down to the cabin. It was so much fun! Even though around every turn I thought for sure a truck would hit us or a mountain lion would jump out to eat us. I seriously did not learn how to steer until 3/4 of the way back to the cabin either. Jared kept grabbing my sled to try and keep me in control and I took him down with me more times than I'd like to count. Very nice of him to try though!
On our way down we saw this beautiful ice sculpture. These people leave their sprinklers on to build a base of ice during the winter. Then they have a hose that they use to make the sculpture bigger and bigger. It was so beautiful to see definitely a form of art.
Did you have a long weekend for presidents day? What did you do?
