Hey guys! What’s crackin’ in your neck of the woods?
Sunday in the world of Maren was very mellow. I was pretty beat from all the heavy lifting on Friday and my 5k Saturday night so I spent most of my Sunday chillin’ like a lemon in some iced tea.
I spent the afternoon hanging out with my friend Dana and I was thinking you all might like to meet her.
Dana and I hang out about once a week these days. She’s super fun and loves jumping on the trampoline in the back yard, eating pizza, and watching movies like Mama Mia and White Chicks. We have all these things in common, which is of course why we’re such great friends.
Unfortunately Dana was born without the use of most of her brain. I started hanging out with her just over a month ago and she has already taught me so much about life, happiness, and everything!
Isn’t she just too sweet?! Dana melts my heart…

I don’t know about all of you…….. but I have this really bad tendency of not doing certain things, even though I know they work and will help me in the long run. Example…… eating fruit.
Here are 4 things that I know will help me be healthier/run faster/happier overall but that I’m not doing.
1) posting all of my eats on my Didn’t Make It page!!! Every major magazine that I read (Runners World, Shape, Health…) all talk about how writing down what you eat really helps you maintain your weight and make healthier food choices. I’ve really fallen off the train on this one and need to start up this habit again.
2) eating more fruits, veggies, and smart grains (for the gluten conscious like myself). I think posting my eats will really help with this one, but I need to start getting in my salad a day and heaping Everest plates of veggies. I know my skin will thank me for this one…
3) making a fitness plan (and sticking to it!). I’m horrible at this one. Ever since losing my gym membership when I graduated from college I’ve had a hard time staying motivated with just me, the pavement, and maybe a workout DVD. I was really motivated walking into the gym and knowing I could stair climb, elliptical, row, run, bike, lift, circuit, the choices were endless. I would normally just block off a period of time to hit the gym and spontaneously chose what workout to do. It’s a little hard to do that now that my choices are running on the side walk, doing a workout DVD, or an at home circuit…
4) making a weekly eating schedule! Gahh. When I wrote about eating healthier last week most of you said you make plans. A weekly fitness plan and a weekly eating plan. I’ve never made an eating plan because I still live at home (even though I’m 24, graduated from college and have a full time job…. what can I say, except I love the free food and rent ) so my cupboards and pantry are always changing and I never know exactly what will be stocked in my kitchen.
