We'd planned a nice trip to the lake at the weekend - it was going to be a quick trip where we'd probably feed the ducks, play in the rather nice playground there and then snap a nice family photo in front of the lake after eating lunch in the pub restaurant there. But plans don't always go to plan when you're a parent and the nice pub lunch turned in to the start of one of those sort of days you just wish you could reset. Both boys in full overdrive - unable to calm down, unable to listen, we barely made it through lunch. Those sort of days as a parent happen a lot, as much as the great, happy days do - you just can't really plan for them that's all.
So we came home to the sound of screaming and kicks to the back of my chair, we even pulled over to refasten our eldest's seat belt which he'd taken off, probably in protest. The rest of the day didn't get much better either but we're working on getting our biggest boy through this somewhat crazy little threenager phase.
And so that's sort of why I'm late posting this and why this photo was taken just an hour ago. But I actually kind of love it, because it's a reflection of my life right now. I've got my three year old who thinks he is a dinosaur most of the time, my one year old who thinks the fact that's he learnt to do proper clapping with his hands extending out makes him awesome (it does) and then Adam and I - me looking quite a bit tired and us with our nearly matching shirts on just like our boys and we're also at home - which sums up January nicely, because it's felt far too cold to go out all that much (we're all very much ready for Spring right now!).
We don't have many plans for February right now, we were originally hoping that work on our new kitchen would be starting around this time of year, but we've come up with potentially a different idea that involves a bit of a longer wait as a lot more saving is required. So we're just going to see where February takes us and hope for a few days of warmer weather. :)
