The Metro, #1163

My husband is on his way home.  Thank goodness!  Enough is enough.  Twelve days without him is just too long!  Missing him is another blog topic, however.  This blog is about the emotional pull I felt when he called me from the Paris Charles De Gaulles airport while in transit.

I have spent a lot of time in France.  In a summer exchange program while I was in high school, I stayed with an amazing family just outside of Toulouse.  The daughter in the family is my age, and we have traveled back and forth over the years to visit each other.  The days spent with her are some of my happiest memories from my youth!

Then when I was in college, I spent a summer in Paris – another incredible experience which gave me life-long friendships and a real love of all things French.  As for the language, despite the fact that it was one of my concentrations in college, I am pretty rusty today with little to no opportunity for practice.

I haven’t been back to France in so many years that it really has become a distant memory from my past.  With my husband’s phone call yesterday though, it suddenly brought my Francophone tendencies back to the surface, and I was just aching to be there.

So, my song of the day today is to pay homage to a place that I hold dear in my heart.  Here is Berlin singing about the Paris “Metro.”  I am daydreaming about riding along the metro through the streets of Paris.  My beautiful France – il me manque!
