The Olympic Torch Tour In A Town Near You

Posted on the 16 March 2012 by Buyasyouview @BuyAsYouView

2012 is proving to be an exciting year for us Brits with both the Olympic Games and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations to look forward to.

The Olympics haven’t been held in the UK for 64 years so it’s the first time many of us will remember seeing the games in our home country. If you haven’t been able to get your hands on tickets to see the events then you can still take part and get into the Olympic spirit by going to see the Olympic Torch Relay. Or if you can’t manage this, both the Olympic Torch Relay and the games themselves will be televised, so now is the time to think about that new TV or sofa suite to ensure the best possible viewing experience! We’ve got something for everyone, from large flat screens to state of the art 3D TVs; leather sofa suites, corner sofa suites or stylish designer sofas to give your living room that extra ‘wow’ factor when your friends and family come round to watch the games and celebrations.

Style & Sophistication

The Olympic Torch Relay is a 70 day tour of the Olympic Flame that will take in over 1000 villages, towns and cities in the UK. The Flame will go within 10 miles of 95% of the population so you should be able to see it either in your town or one nearby. It will be carried by over 8000 inspirational people from all over the UK who have been nominated by their friends and families.

The exact route is yet to be finalised but our guide below outlines where you can see the Torch and when.

Wales: Friday 25th May – Sunday 27th May

The Torch will enter Wales in Monmouth and travel down through Newport, Pontypool and Cardiff. It will then go up to Merthyr Tydfil, down the Bridgend and along the coast through Port Talbot and Neath before arriving in Swansea. Sunday 27th May will see the Torch travel further West through Carmarthen and then up to Aberystwyth.

Scotland: Friday 8th June – Thursday 14th June

Scotland welcomes the Torch in Stranraer where it makes it way to Glasgow. From there, the Torch will travel north to Inverness, up to the Shetland Islands and then back down to Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh. In total the Torch will travel through more than 120 Scottish towns, villages and cities.

North East: 14th – 18th June

Travelling down from Scotland, the Torch will make its way through Northumberland to Morpeth, Tynemouth and Newcastle to name a few places. It will then move on to Durham and Middlesbrough. It visits approximately 60 places on it’s journey through the North East.

North West: Tuesday 29th May – Saturday 2nd June and Wednesday 20th June – Sunday 24th June

Being such a large region, the Torch is visiting the North West twice along its UK tour as it snakes around each area of the country. In the first trip, the Torch will travel through Warrington, Bolton, Southport, St Helen’s and Liverpool. The second trip will see the torch travel down from Cumbria and onto Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Midlands: Saturday 30th June – Sunday 1st July

The torch makes its way through communities across the Midlands with a culmination and celebration in Birmingham on the Saturday.

Yorkshire: Tuesday 19th June – Wednesday 20th June and Sunday 24th June – Tuesday 26th June

In its first visit to the Yorkshire and Humberside area, the Torch will travel through Hull and on to York. In the second trip to the region, the Torch will go through Leeds, Sheffield and many major towns and villages en route.
