The Ordinary Moments: Turning 27
I don't quite know how I feel about turning 27. On one hand I feel 27, I have two children, a Husband, a mortgage, a car, a job - a whole lot of responsibilities. On the other hand I still feel about 21 in my head and I certainly act it sometimes, okay a lot of the time, okay perhaps even younger. I think I've hit a time where I might just feel like this every birthday now. I guess I just think that 27's a bit of a grown up age. Maybe it's because it's stuck in my head that 27 is how old my Step-Dad was when my Mum met and married him.
I wasn't sure how I was going to spend my birthday this year. When I was younger I would get excited about my birthday a whole month before the actual date, but these days I feel more excited for my childrens birthdays. Despite not being overly fussed, I ended up having probably one of the best birthdays ever and I really do think it was down to the fact that I now have my own complete little family.
We all went out for the day to Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire and it was just such a wonderful day. It was so lovely to wander around trying to spot the animals and showing them all to an intrigued Ethan. We ended our day in their super-fun soft play area, then came home for our favorite pasta meal and a glass of wine (for Mummy). On Friday Adam and I visited Waddesdon Manor together, whilst his family babysat for us. Waddesdon Manor is just beyond stunning, I can't get over how beautiful it is. We'd been before, but we weren't really able to look around the house as Ethan wanted to do what toddlers do best and touch everything. So it was lovely to go back and enjoy a nice sunny day to ourselves. And tonight (Saturday) we're going for a meal with some family and friends as a last little celebration.
So it's actually turned out to be a pretty great birthday. Before now, I had sort of thought that now that I have children, my birthday would probably become less and less interesting. But actually I think that now that I have children and we're a family, birthdays feel so much more special.
