I gripped the steering wheel and focused on the road, trying my best to keep the upbeat mood I'd had for most of the day. Thoughts and conversations kept rushing to my head and there was no stopping the dramatic mood shift, no matter how hard I tried.
"Are you alright?" Office Boy asked."Yea, I'm fine," I said, keeping my eyes focused on the road."You're really quiet. That's not normal.""I'm fine.""What's wrong?""Nothing."
He let it be until we arrived back at his apartment.
"Seriously, what's wrong?""Nothing," I said."Did I do something wrong?""No. You didn't do anything.""You were all happy and stuff and then you got really quiet and somber. What happened?"
I looked at him and sighed. You're not gonna let this go, are you? "It's just...I don't know. This weekend was really weird. I saw a lot of family that I haven't seen in a while and so they wanted to know how everything's going. They'd all gush over Christina and ask about the dress and plans for the wedding and stuff...and then they'd all turn and look at me," I said. "And for the first time in my life, I didn't know how to answer the question. And I guess, it just got me thinking...what's the point of all of this? I mean, I know there doesn't need to be a total end goal in mind, but like...is this just a fun thing for you or what? Like...where do you see this going?""Oh, you know, picket fence, two kids, two dogs...no cats," he said and grinned."That's not funny. I'm being serious.""I am, too. I do see this going far and it's not just some random fun thing.""Well, if that's the case, there's some stuff we need to talk about.""Like what?""Well, marriage and faith, for starters. Because you said you weren't sure if you wanted to get married right now. And that could mean you're not sure if you want to get married right now, at this point in your life. Or it could mean right now, you're not sure if you want to get married ever.""I do want to get married and I do want to have kids," he said. "I just didn't want you to automatically associate me with marriage.""I wouldn't do that. We're still getting to know each other.""So what else?""Well, there is the faith issue. It's the most important thing in my life and if this is gonna work, if we're really gonna do this, we have to be on the same page in that respect.""My faith is something I chose for myself because I wanted it, not because my parents made me. Admittedly, it's not been the biggest priority recently, but it's not something I was ever forced to do. I chose it for me because I wanted it.""Ok," I said and paused. "So...are we really gonna do this?""I guess so," he said and smiled as he kissed my forehead.
So, we are officially dating and things are going well.
