A new year of the siblings project and one of my favorite posts to write, asides from the Me and Mine family portrait project of course. Because I love to see my boys together in one photograph and I love being able to look back and see how much they've grown and changed. I love being reminded of the moments they've shared and the little things they've done together as brothers. I love having these posts as a way to hopefully one day show them the very start of their relationship as brothers, from newborn to beyond.
As Logan is hitting toddlerhood, the bond between them seems to be changing. On one hand they squabble more - mostly over toys, one silly little plastic toy that they both want so much that they are prepared to scream the entire house down for. Then ten minutes later, it's left abandoned, totally forgotten about and they've moved on to the next thing. And then on the other hand I can see them enjoying each other so much more - they're concerned about one another more. They acknowledge each other more. They play together more. Laugh together more. They've become proper little brothers.
It's funny because a few people have commented on how alike they look. Some have even said that they look almost the same and they're hard to tell apart. This makes me laugh because although I can see their similar features, to me they each have their own individual looks. I guess the difference is that I am with them everyday and some people only see them in passing or via photos and videos online.
I like the idea of them looking similar, I'm the sort of Mum who likes the opportunity to dress her children the same, or in similar sorts of styles, but different colours. That's one of the things I think I might take more advantage of this year, especially now Logan's walking and catching up in height with his bigger brother more everyday. I've seen some baby aged coats that I like for the colder weather we're currently having and I've also seen some baby boy jackets for the Spring and warmer weather that I think would look very cute on the boys. It's just now convincing Adam that it's cute to dress the boys similarly to each other, but their clothes having always been more my department so that should be easy enough. ;)
Ethan's going through a stage of calling his brother 'Baby Bum Bum' at the moment. It's cute and funny in equal measures. We picked Ethan up from pre-school on his first day back after the Christmas holidays and as soon as he saw Logan in the pram waiting for him, he ran over shouting 'Baby Bum Bum!!' which was adorably funny. I'm sure the teachers think we are all a bit mad - we nickname our cats and use both their nicknames and real names probably equally, Ethan was trying to tell one of his teachers the names of them after she'd asked what pets we had at home. It ended up sounding like we owned about 10 cats (well, I guess that is the dream!). ;)
It's going to be interesting to see where this year takes us with the boys. Are they going to be crazy and hard work and double trouble? (Probably). Or are we really going to enjoy taking them places and watching them explore, learn, laugh and play together? The answer I'll guess, is probably going to be both of these. I feel equally nervous of how challenging it might be as well as excited for the crazy and the fun and the adventures of what life will be like raising our two toddlers into boys.
