If ever I get an opportunity to read a book in which my entire life’s story was written, all that has happened so far and all that is going to happen in the future, would I read it?
I don’t think so. Why, you ask? Well, there are quite a few reasons for that, but let me start off with a famous quote by Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda – “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and that’s why it is called the present.”
That quote quite aptly sums up the reasons why I wouldn’t want to read the story of my life.
My personal belief has always been that as one goes through life, one has to learn from each and every experience, good or bad. I have found that I have learnt something new from everything that happens in my life on a daily basis. From mundane things like riding a two wheeler to serious things like taking decisions on which school to put my daughter into, I have invariably learnt something from each and every one of these events. That being said it is not in my nature to dwell upon a decision once it has been made and necessary action put into place. I do weigh the pros and cons of every decision, but once it has been made, I don’t double guess myself and wonder whether it was right or wrong. My funda is that I made a decision, so I had better learn to live with its consequences. This would be why I wouldn’t want to read the story of my life so far.
Now that we have dealt with the past, let’s fast forward to the future. Given the belief system that I have discussed in the previous paragraph, it follows that the future would be the result and consequences of all the decisions that I have taken in life so far. Based on life experiences so far I have learnt that despite our best planning and action, there are occasions in life where things don’t quite go as per plan for various reasons. While some of these reasons are in our control, a majority of the time we simply cannot control external factors. And this lack of control has the impact of frustrating us to no end when our best laid plans amount to naught.
Thus, it clearly follows that there is no point in us knowing our future, is there. And therefore, there is no way that I would want to read the future of the story of my life. I would rather go with the flow, as the saying goes, and traverse this wonderful journey called life without too many expectations from anybody or anything in particular.
These were my points of view on whether I would want to read the book of my life from beginning to end. It would be awesome if you readers could share your points of view on this topic in the comments. So, would you want to read the book of your life, tell me.
