I tend to be fairly standoffish when I travel. I don’t know why, mostly it is probably just the BC ferries. I hate them. They are always freezing, and they are a total ripoff.
I am bitter. Obviously.
But sometimes, when the moon is just right or something, people try and befriend me.
Not sure why.
Maybe I am just having a cute day or something. Maybe the hormones are sending out some strange be my friend vibes.
I don’t know.
Tonight in the terminal, a guy walked in checked over the waiting room, and then sat down directly behind me, two seats over.
As usual I noticed but never really paid attention or acknowledged him.
I have lots of friends.
He didn’t get the vibe.
After a few minutes, and totally out of the blue, he asks me when Naniamo got the new hospital.
I say, I didn’t actually know there
was a new hospital. I really didn’t. I explained to my new bestie, that I usually only pass through Naniamo to get off the Island, and I have never really spent much time there.
He informs me he was there and goes on in a bit of a ramble about it, and then says that he was actually born in the hospital. He also hasn’t been to Naniamo SINCE he was born. He moved to Ontario and has always lived there.
Until last Thursday.
He has moved back to the coast.
He is living in Vancouver for now and he isn’t sure where he will end up, so he is traveling around and checking things out.
He was uber excited that he got to touch a starfish, he even came over too us on the ferry and showed me the picture that he had just posted on facebook from his Iphone.
It made me smile thinking that something that has always been so normal and as seemingly insignificant as a little purple starfish, could make someone’s day that much :)
It made me be a little more grateful for all the beauty that surrounds me living in an amazing place like this.
So my learning for today…
Make eye contact, smile more…meet new people.
You never know when their enthusiasm about things you take for granted could change your day, or maybe even your life a little bit.
Absolutely noted :)
Have a grateful day my friends :)
