This book The Swords of Darkness: Appearance of the Krito mainly deals with providing readers with the backdrop of the entire series, and how the Umatsukis travel to the fort where the first spirit fruit is located. The sudden appearance of the powerful Preskrito, Azgaurd’s story and whether they manage to consume the spirit fruit makes up the rest of the narrative.
Suffice to say that 14 year old Swarnim, the author of this book has managed to weave an engaging narrative in an absorbing setting. It is quite hard for readers not to get fully immersed in this apocalyptic world where imminent destruction by the evil soul is breathing down our necks. In Ichiro and his siblings, the author gives us likeable heroes to root for and we constantly find ourselves cheering them on in their various quests and frustrated at the hurdles they have to overcome.
The pace of the book is quite breathless with hardly any respite in the middle. And each and every turn these brave siblings take brings with it a fresh whiff of danger, adventure and the stuff that good stories are made of. This series is surely a nice contemporary take on the classic good versus evil template and given his age, Swarnim has done an extremely competent job of penning down an interesting book.
