This government shutdown business is really rubbing me the wrong way. Democrats or Republicans…who cares what political party you are for….it was socially and financially irresponsible to have let this happen. We have elected government officials to make decisions. Right or wrong, Congress receives salaries to make choices on our behalf. I can only imagine what would happen in most of our jobs…the jobs of the average citizens..if we were unable to come to a common ground with our coworkers. We’d be fired!!!
How could our government let this happen? Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Canyon are turning away visitors, and I am turning to the voices of my forefathers in times like these (musical forefathers that is) and want to scream from the top of my lungs….”This land is MY land!” Oh Woody Guthrie….how I understand what you were talking about!
The song that is most poignant to me at the moment of this ridiculously frustrating government shutdown, however, is from another musical activist. As I listen to Bob Dylan sing “The Times They Are a-Changing,” it leaves me with the overwhelming feeling that we are moving backwards in times…instead of going forwards. Dylan sings:
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.
These words were written in the 1960′s, but boy, they sure do ring true today. Click HERE to hear Bob Dylan’s incredibly thoughtful song, and congressmen and senators…get back to work!
