The Titan Chronicles, Part 3

Getting adjusted to having a dog around was huge for the hubs and I. We had it easy having our cat, Jaggar (RIP). Cats are so very low maintenance! As with any new addition to the family, you get to feel each other out. I remember the first Titan came home. The hubs was at work so I had the advantage of Day 1 bonding. :) Because our yard was not yet fenced it, we arranged for a tether out back of our house. It served it's purpose until we got the fence done.
Anywho......I was getting Titan acquainted with the tether when I heard the hubs pull up in the drive way. He starts walking towards the back of the house. Instantly, Titan stands at attention. (Yeah, I'm already liking his protectiveness). He eyes up the hubs, I think he even barked, and the hubs comes over. Titan was timid at first but warmed up. Then the fun began! Not only do we get to find out, by trial and error, and what food to feed him; how much to feed him; what his potty break schedule is like; etc., but we get to learn on how to put said "pit bull" to bed  for nite nite.
OMG! This is where I first began to regret the rescue. In the evenings, the hubs goes to bed early. I too, was used to going to bed about 8 pm and just watching tv until I was sleepy. WELL, Titan had other plans in store! We had bought him his own bed. A nice one for the foot of our bed. Yeah, that wasn't good enough. He wanted to sleep in OUR bed! (at the time we had a queen size) But when time to actually go to bed, Titan started this obnoxiously crazy ass shit!
He would do "zoomies" (run back and forth from one end of the house to the other and quickly turn around). When we tried to get him to calm down, he would just fly through the air nipping. Not biting aggressively, just nipping as to "I WANT YOUR ATTENTION, NOW GIVE IT TO ME." Oh yeah, he had our attention alright! ARGH!! What the fuck is this dog doing? He's fuckin crazy! Yeah,we both thought he was crazy as hell and this is why he was on his 3rd home!
We tried everything. Hubs finally gave up. He would go to bed (he gets up earlier than me) and I would stay up in the living room for at least another hour before Titan was ready to go to bed (hopefully). There were nights I stayed up much longer and I do believe I spent a few nights sleeping on the couch because of this. Eventually, he came around. (1) He had a lot of pent up energy; (2) He wasn't tired when we were; (3) He never had any type of routine. Oh boy, problem child we have here. Like I said, eventually we figured it out. Took us at least 3-4 months. We fought about it. Titan was good except for night time. This is when I regretted getting a rescue who had potential problems. Sleepless night, restless to get to bed, not sure how to handle it......BUT we stuck with it and figured it out..................
Now all I have to do is say "nite nite" and he knows it's time to go crawl in bed. His or ours. Doesn't matter. Just quiet time and sleepy time. It may get restless and fight going to be every now and again but I have found ways to persuade him. ;) Trial and error.
