The Ultimate Guide To Tackling Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a common skin condition that occurs when a forming scar appears on the skin with an off color. In some cases, stretch marks appear after pregnancy, and weight fluctuations during these periods there is rapid body growth. Stretch marks can be removed permanently though it must be noted that as skin ages and loses elasticity, there is a chance of stretch marks appearing again.
There are some stretch mark creams and gels on the market, but there is no one product that seems to help all of the time — and some don't seem to help at all — there are some professional treatments you can try at Pulse Light Clinic.
Purple or red stretch marks are often newly formed and have a blood supply to the area, making them easier to treat. Both laser CO2 Laser, ICON, and microneedling techniques would be suitable for these stretch marks. The clients' skin type and condition would be assessed during consultation.
White stretch marks mean they have formed into a scar which means there is no blood supply to them and can be harder to treat. To thoroughly remove these are unlikely; however, if they are smaller, a course of treatments can help them disappear entirely. CO2 would be suitable for fair skin types. Alternatively, the less invasive treatment DermaPen can treat all skin types as well as Profound RF for clients looking to get skin tightening post-pregnancy.
ICON Laser
The ICON laser is a non-ablative treatment, which delivers gentle pulses of light to regions to improve texture, colour, and skin tension. Low risk of redness and swelling last a few days after treatments.
On average, three to six treatments are recommended with intervals. The best results will be between three-six months after your final treatment.
DermaPen
Microneedling provides a unique response through the segmented control of microneedles, producing micro-injuries to the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and dermis (the inner layer of skin). As a result, the micro-injuries support the body's natural powers to repair itself.
On average, three to six treatments are recommended with intervals. Permanent changes in the skin will start becoming visible after your full course of treatments.
CO2 Fractional
The CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment is an ablative laser that removes a top layer of your skin to expose new youthful skin beneath. This is a safe and effective way to remove damaged skin, encouraging the natural healing process whilst stimulating the production of collagen.
On average, three treatments are recommended with two to eight-week intervals. You will see visible results after a few weeks, and even a year after the treatment, you will continue to see the benefits.
Profound RF
The temperature-controlled device uses microneedles to deliver radiofrequency energy in the form of heat directly into the reticular dermis, the skin's lower level, where most collagen fibers reside. The RF micro-needling device allows a controlled level of injury to stimulate a healing response that remodels skin and fades stretch marks.
This is a one-off treatment, and optimal results will be seen three months post-treatment.
