They Had Me at "we'll Supply You with Soreen"...

Inboxes are funny old things. One minute they're full of once-in-a-lunchtime offers to do something you don't fancy for a few quid off and dodgy press releases, and the next well there's something wonderful.
And on one day last month, it was an email inviting me to test and help promote Soreen in exchange for free Soreen and money. Erm, what could I say?
You see Soreen has such a special place in my heart that I'd have done it for nothing (but don't tell them that).
My first pivotal Soreen moment came in around 1995 when I was preparing to sail across the Atlantic in a 31ft boat with my first husband.
On a cold January morning we were about to cast off on the adventure and I was somewhat filled with trepidation. My then sister-in-law, an experienced sailor, came to see us at our berth in Troon and brought us some Earl Grey teabags and a Soreen loaf. She said: "If it blows a hooley, just heave-to and go below for some tea and cake."
This was one of the best gifts I have ever had. Not just the malt loaf and tea, but the idea that if the weather (or whatever) does its worst it's a good idea to have something soothing to do when you can't do anything other than wait.
We made it to Antigua, the marriage foundered, and the boat sold. All of which are stories for another day.
However, I was left with the idea that in the teeth of a gale you can always have tea and cake and, of course, something of a weakness for Soreen.
I am being paid to talk about Soreen, but I would anyway.
You can find out more about Soreen on their website and facebook page.
