…Think Small

Happy Small Business Saturday!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this shopping tradition (now in its fourth year), the Saturday after Thanksgiving has been dedicated to the mom-and-pop stores. Plus it’s a nice break after the complete pandemonium of Black Friday.

While it may have American Express as its main sponsor, it serves as a reminder of the importance of the small businesses in our communities.

We all love our big-box stores and the discounts that come with them, but it’s the local businesses that are the backbone of our communities. I know we’ve all heard it a hundred times, but when you shop local, you really are helping to make your community better. Plus the money stays in your community.

Of course, shopping small can come with a bigger price tag, which can be a little tougher during the holidays when budgets are a bit tighter.

So if you’re looking to support the local movement without going broke, maybe skip the Starbucks today and stop by your local coffee shop instead…unless of course your only local coffee shop is Starbucks, then you’ll have to come up with something else.
