Alarm blaring at 5:30 am on a Saturday morning — check!
Lights on and kids squinting their eyes open – check!
Realization that they have to be up for a big all school race in the park – check!
Big Mommy fail – not laying the clothes out before bedtime last night – check!
Uh oh — where’s the shirt!!??!! The all important shirt that every kid in the school wears for the race? The race has now begun INSIDE the house – through every hamper, in the dryer, tearing apart every shelf in all the bedrooms! Where could it be?
Kids are brushing teeth, and child #1 is wearing last year’s shirt which is already two sizes too small. One more chance – another quick surveillance of her bedroom. Suddenly – in the back of the closet under a pile – THE shirt! Saved! Now time for the real race, but I’m still in my bathrobe and slippers. I’m in last place, but there’s still a chance for the ones I love. I cheer them along!
I shoo them out of the house all put together, and….
I couldn’t be more proud! Way to go family! You made it…shirt and all!
My song of the day is one that I discovered just this morning. “This Shirt” is by Mary Chapin Carpenter and is a really beautiful song. Check it out, because an old shirt really can be very meaningful.
