Tiny Get-Together to Enjoy Thanksgiving 2013

Thanksgiving MAIN

Thanksgiving was yesterday and this year I had decided not to have a Thanksgiving 2013 Party for my friends. I usually do, but this year I just could not be bothered to cook anything. I mean after all I am not in the US any more. But old habits die hard and yesterday morning I just could not get rid of the feeling that I must – just must – do something to celebrate if not Thanksgiving 2013 then the glorious Thanksgiving food. Otherwise years of my traditions will be lost. So I called a friend of mine and invited her over for dinner – nothing big; just something small to throw together as I only had a couple of hours to get everything ready. And most importantly for a glass or two of perfectly chilled rosè wine and a good chat!

Ceasar Salad with Pomegranates

I made a super fast Caesar Salad with Pecorino Romano cheese and pomegranate seeds for a starter. That’s easy to make in advance and I do love a good Ceasar Salad.

Onion Dip

We had some pitta chips with onion dip to nosh while waiting for the main course to cook. That’s Lipton Onion Dip straight from a packet.

Stuffing and Turkey

My ‘no-hassle’ stuffing was Stove Top Turkey Stuffing spiced up with fresh pomegranate seeds. I am just all about pomegranate at the moment! We also had candied yams (those are always a must and I made them from scratch!), cranberry sauce (Thanks goes to M&S) and ready roasted turkey slices (again thanks to Marks and Spencer).

The Plate

Thanksgiving food has always been my favorite holiday food. All that fall and earthy flavor of yams with succulent turkey just melts in your mouth. Topped with a crisp and bit sour cranberry sauce. Delish! And of course, stuffing with a little bit of gravy. Food heaven!

Pumpkin Pie 3

No matter how tiny my Thanksgiving 2013 dinner was there always have to be Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream. There is no other way to end a Thanksgiving dinner. This year I made a fast version of Pumpkin Pie. I bought a ready-made shortcrust pastry and then the rest was handled by Libby. I do use the recipe from the can and let me tell you – that recipe never fails! Even though I do like to use condensed milk instead of evaporated milk for my Pumpkin Pie. This way I can forget all about the extra sugar as the condensed milk already has sugar in it.

Candy Corn

My tiny Thanksgiving 2013 was lovely. And while rushing over to my local American bakery, Outsider Tart, to get the stuffing I could not help but to pick up a bag of candy corn. I know it’s Halloween candy, but I have not seen them in any other shop so I just had to. And they are so cute. As usual I made way too much food, so I will have a weekend-long Thanksgiving leftover feast. I am sure by Monday I will be quite tired of candied yams and turkey.
