To Kill A Blog Or Not to Kill A Blog?

plan blog's fate

I was editing my media kit and suddenly realized: If something was to happen to me tomorrow, how would anyone who reads my blog find out that I’m gone?

I have no idea why I keep worrying about dying. But I do, because I know for sure – yes I do – that people die. One day it’ll be my turn and I’ll be gone. I’ve made plans with my insurance and in my Will. My husband knows what I’d like to happen with my body. There’s no need to send me back to my birthplace. Perth is my home now, my son is here and so is my husband. So when I die I’d like to stay here so these two people can visit my grave whenever they want.

But what if I die before my blog or something happens that prevents me from personally continuing my blog? Problogger’s post on If Your Blog Died Today covers what happens if your blog dies before you do. But I think I need to write a plan to leave with my Will for my husband or relatives (in case we die together). This plan will suggest to them what to do if something happens to me and they decide to keep the blog running, sell it or shut it down.

My blog is fairly new, but what if this happens later down the track when I’ve achieved many milestones and generating good community or income?

Would I want them to shut it down? Print it? Sell it (I mean if it’s a successful blog by then)? Or do I want my husband to continue on my behalf? Etc.

So what’s my plan going to include? Links and passwords, definitely. And my wishes.

Last night I asked my husband to grant me one definite promise. He has promised that if I die before he does, he will consider a tattoo of a QR code on his shoulder and when people scan it they would be taken to my blog. How awesome is that?

If you are reading this after I’ve died, please comment below to confirm to the others whether you found me via his tattoo.

Are you a blogger? Have you got a plan for your blog if something like this were to happen?
