After that we went to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. I had vegetarian sushi and Nana and Grandad had tempura. We had the same thing but from a different restaurant for dinner.
To the Arctic

I haven't blogged for so long because I haven't had any writing inspiration. We did go up to the cottage and I planted some pepper and tomato seeds in Topsy Turvy Planters. I also went to the Salvation Army. Added to my collection of books by Ann M. Martin and bought a bunch of games including Monopoly Express, which turns out to be a very good dice game. It's well designed, portable and only takes bout 10 minutes to play. It's the same idea as real Monopoly but it's different.
Last week I bought a new Charles Owen riding helmet at the spring GREENHAWK Warehouse Sale. It's a show helmet so it's soft and velvety. Unfortunately they stopped making helmets with the chin cup, which I really liked. The helmet I was using before had one but it wasn't mine. Apparently I have a very small head and it was hard to find a helmet in my 6 7/8" size. I also bought a cheap pair of riding gloves to protect my hands from getting rope burn from the reins. I didn't buy any riding boots because my rain boots are fine. Replacing my old stuff stresses me and I don't like to do it unless absolutely necessary. My parents bought a new leather couch which stressed me out, the old one was fine (for me, admittedly the new one is much higher and not saggy like the old one). The new one is smaller and since the leather is softer, less durable I think, and why leather? The dogs have already put dents in it because they frequently sleep on the couch. We also got new arm chairs but they look like old lady chairs and aren't as wide as the old one. I don't think they match either. They do recline though, which is nice. Vegan people aren't suppose to have a leather couch! Parents are so uncooperative. Also the riding boots were leather at the sale. I try to be environmentally friendly and good to animals but it' impossible to be 100% of the time. Something always comes up. Try buying food not packaged in plastic! I watched a documentary called Plastic Planet yesterday too.
Yesterday I went to the Ontario Science Center with Nana and Grandad. We went to see the movie To the Arctic in the SHOPPERS DRUG MART OMNIMAX Theatre. As a coincidence I went to Shopper's before we left to buy Arius. The movie surrounds you and it makes you feel like you are really in the Arctic (minus the temperature). It's kind of like those movie rides but doesn't make you quite as nauseous. It was about how global warming is affecting the animals in the Arctic. Their struggle to find food and shelter. They are forced to keep moving because all the ice sheets melt. There are not a lot of ice sheets in the middle of the ocean to fish off anymore, making it hard for them to hunt seal, their main source of food. Lots end up scavenging for small things and males will even resort to eating cubs. Polar bears have to now swim long distances to find a place to 'land'. Walrus's eat crabs and have to swim far into the ocean to get food and can't go as often due to the long swim. They also have to leave their young longer when they go on hunts. They used to be able to stay on large ice chunks in the oceans where they could easily just dive in and find food. It was sad but I was already aware of the situation and still feel just as helpless. The theater was really impressive in making the soundings feel very realistic. My Nana has a membership to the Science Centre so she gets a good discount on the theater tickets. Before the movie started they explained how the theater worked which was also quite interesting and they have a very good sound system.
