Dora is a huge fan of the iPad and why wouldn’t she be? They’re lots of fun. Occasionally I stumble across great apps. Seek and Find are the latest. They are age appropriate and engaging for my almost two year old.
I have always loved the Where’s Wally and I Spy books. These apps are in the same vein. They have beautifully hand drawn graphics and when tapped, make a sound.
Both apps are free to download. To begin, you’re given one of three scenes to explore. If you want to purchase the other two, it’s $2.99. I figured I’d spend more than that on an activity book and Dora loved these so much that it was worth purchasing the full set for both apps.
What I also love about these apps is that they’re not over stimulating (although there is a camel that spits on a man that sends Dora into hysterics). The sounds are generally soft, like animals munching or bells ringing and there is a piano softly playing in the background. They’re actually nice ‘quiet time’ apps (and I do not usually associate the iPad with quiet time).
They’re great stimuli for conversations about what things do. Dora loves asking ‘What’s that?’ about the pictures… sometimes repeatedly about the same picture.
The navigation is so simple that Dora quickly worked out how to hop between scenes.
I think they’re worth taking a look at to see if your toddler would enjoy them. You don’t have to pay unless you want the extra scenes.
