Toddler Tried & Tested: Leap Frog Fridge Phonics

Leap Frog are a name we always trust when it comes to fun and educational toddler-friendly toys, so we were excited to be given the chance to try out the Fridge Phonics set with Tyne recently.
Fridge Phonics is a magnetic letter set designed to be put on the fridge at childs height. . Children can place each letter into the bus window and press it to hear friendly character Tad sing a song about the letter's name and sound. Press it twice and Tad will say a word that begins with the letter, and then use the word in a sentence.  Children can also press the music note to move and sing along to three learning songs, like the "Alphabet Song" and "Wheels on the Bus."  This is aimed at ages 2 and up, and is designed to assist with alphabet knowledge, including letter names and sounds, which is an important first step in learning to read.  Playing with the letter tiles, which are designed for easy manipulation by little hands, also helps strengthen fine motor and coordination skills.
I think the idea of having this stuck to the fridge is a great one as it would give children something to occupy them while parents are busy preparing food or doing dishes etc, but sadly for me Tyne is much more keen on having on the floor!
He loves trying all of the different letters and has already learned that "T" is for Tyne...he is not yet 2 years old so a little younger than the recommended age and he has no current knowledge of letters that I am aware of, so its certainly nice to see that it's already taught him something.
He LOVES the songs, particularly wheels on the bus!
The letter shapes are a very good size for fitting into toddler hands without fitting in to toddler mouths which is something a paranoid Mum like myself very much appreciates!
All in all, this is a very fun little toy which has a lot of added educational benefits - for its £14.99 price tag I think it is well worth the investment!
