“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.”
~ Roald Dahl, “Matilda”
Happy Book Lovers Day! While every season is a good time to pick up a book, there’s something special about summer reading. Which is why it makes perfect sense that Book Lovers Day would fall during the summer months.
For those of us who love books, (which is everyone, right?) there’s a million reasons why we just can’t get enough of those bound pages. Okay, so nowadays a lot of books are read on a screen, but they still do the same thing, even if the format is a little more high-tech. My point is, there are some people out there who don’t know the joy of discovering a brand new world in-between the pages of a book. Yes, there are people who not only don’t love books, they don’t even like them.
This is beyond the comprehension of most book enthusiasts. Books allow us to escape to fantastic places, and see the world through the eyes of amazing characters. They expand our view of the world beyond our own perspective. They teach us more about ourselves and others. They inspire us to dream. Despite their differences in content, at their heart all books do the same thing—tell a story. And who doesn’t love a good story?
The answer is no one.
So, even if you don’t consider yourself a “book lover,” consider this your day too. Maybe you just haven’t found your genre, or perhaps you haven’t taken the time to sit down and enjoy the leisure of reading a good book? Whatever your reason, take some time this summer to slow down and enjoy a good story. What’s the worst that can happen? If it doesn’t work out, you’ll have wasted an afternoon, but if it does you’ll have acquired a life-long passion and countless new perspectives.
And you made it all the way through this post, so that’s a pretty good start. Now go out there and read, you future book lover!
Oh…and we’ll be back with more books starting this weekend when we kick off our Summer Reading Week.
…just for fun:
