For the New Year 2017, we made plans to go away over New Year to New York as it has been something we've both wanted to do for so long and because of my old job working in retail, you are never allowed to take time off over December- January time, so now that I have my current job I was finally able to go away over the holidays! I found it really strange packing for a cold weather holiday as I'd never done that before but found it surprisingly easy when I was basically packing what I'd wear on a normal day in the UK. After an absolute nightmare of a time traveling there and getting completely lost on the way to the hotel, we eventually made it there in one piece and just in time to get ourselves ready for our New Year's Eve plans.
As the dress code was black tie optional, I had been unsure about what was acceptable attire but I had managed to get in touch with a member of the events team to confirm what sort of outfit was acceptable and they were happy to help which I thought was really good that they did that and when we were onboard the yacht there was a mix of super glam, formal and smart casual, so it was a good mix. The issue I had was when I was looking around online for more information about the yacht event there wasn't a lot that was given away about how it looked inside or what the dress code looked like so hopefully this gives a little more of an idea. I opted for this TFNC paris scallop gold sequinned dress from TFNC London which I fell in love with as soon as I saw it. I had looked for other options too just to make sure it was definitely what I wanted, I had looked at others that were maybe more on the 'super glam' side but I kept finding myself being drawn to this one over and over again and it was cheaper than other ones I'd seen so saved myself some pennies! I teamed it with my Vivienne Westwood drop orb earrings, midnight blue sparkly nails for a contrast, with Versus Versace lion head shoulder bag and with my pewter heels from Dune to complete the look.
The whole night was amazing! We shared a table with two welsh couples and two german couples and everyone was so welcoming and friendly which made it even more special having others who were so easy going and of course, in the festive spirit too. The food was so delicious, with a good variety to pick from and the bar had also created their own special cocktail menu for the night too. When it was close to midnight we stood out on the middle deck out the back as it was so cold on the top deck so you were a bit more sheltered from the wind where we were and had the most incredible view of New York skyline from the yacht. The DJ began the countdown and played all the celebratory songs, everyone around us cheering and shouting 'Happy New Year!' at the tops of their lungs and hugging their loved ones and then watching the fireworks over the Statue of Liberty began whilst Frank Sinatra's New York, New York and Alicia Keys' New York played as the soundtracks to the occasion. It was honestly one of those 'pinch me' moments and a memory that will stick for me for the rest of my life. It was absolutely perfect and such an amazing way to celebrate the New Year.
