Did you know that it's National Experience Week?
This yearly event is designed to encourage us all to try something new - whether that be something as huge as skydiving or as small as simply trying something new for dinner - I am definitely guilty of sticking with the familiar things in life. I'm the kind of person who always favours returning to the same holiday destinations year after year, always chooses the same foods from the menu when we go out for dinner, always wears the same sorts of clothes.
I suffer with a serious Fear Of Change - my mind always tells me "But what if you don't like the new thing you try? Better to stick with what you know!"
But really, where is the logic in that? As I always tell my children when encouraging them to try new foods for the first time... "If you'd never tried your favorite food, you'd never have known how much you love it!" ...You have to try new things and step out of your comfort zone in order to find new favorite places, new favorite meals - just new things!
So I for one am going to be taking advantage of National Experience Week to push us all to step away from the familiar and try something different - we'll be trying some different dinners, going on some new days out, and instead of going to the same park we visit every day - we'll be trying to find some new ones! These may not seem like huge things, but I think they're really positive steps to encouraging the children not to be afraid of trying something new.
