Tryst with the Past

Posted on the 14 December 2014 by Yamini
I saw the doors open
and walked in
in a habit
it didn't seem odd
walking the same path
so many years later
Everything seemed just the same
Just like I had left it
Untouched
But if one looked closely
probably nothing was the same
I stood there and stared
looking for my face
among the hundreds that ran
out of the school gates
Waited there
that some body would come
and shake me out of the silence
like they always did
every time I was lost
I waited
for the place had never disappointed me ever before
But probably
I was expecting too much
now the distance was a little too long to travel
across times
I was the ghost of the past
and things passed through me
as if I was transparent
as if I didn't exist
as if the building did want to talk to me
but was too busy with life
that was current
As if the walls had decided
to let me wait
so that they could attend
to the more important things..the now
after all I was a relic
I thought I saw someone smile
I thought I saw some eye twinkle
I thought I saw somebody walk out with that old bicycle
I thought I heard the cry from the far end of the corridor
I thought I saw her jump out of the window
But it wasn't me
it was someone else in the same place
I walked out
leaving everything there
in the same place
in the same state
undisturbed
I wonder
Is it the same story that keeps repeating
With different players
I now remember
having seen a girl
several years back
staring at me
staring at the building
as if searching for something
Was I looking at myself
from the future?
