All of us need a place to unwind and
relax. Having that is important for us on so many levels. Many people find that
learning how to chill out is a big help if they suffer from mental health
issues.
Where and how you relax is a very
personal thing. What works for you may not work for me, and vise versa.
However, increasingly we are choosing to use our bathrooms as our go to space
when we need to unwind properly.
There really is nothing quite like
soaking in the tub for an hour. You can almost feel the worries of the world
lifting from your shoulders.
It works so well because the water
supports your tired muscles and the fact you are naked means that most of the
family will not bug you while you are in the tub. In many families, the
bathroom is the only room in the house that is sacred, and is a place where you
can get five minutes to yourself.
The next time you remodel your
bathroom I strongly urge you to think about how to make it more relaxing. If
you do, you will have somewhere you will want to spend more time, and can
really unwind.
Here are a few pointers.
A good door
The first step is to update the
door. Now I know that sounds weird, but it really is a good idea. As much as
possible you want to block the noise of the rest of the house out, so a good
heavy door like the one you already have on your bedrooms is well worth
fitting.
Oh, and make sure it has a lock on
it. As I said earlier in most homes people do not disturb each other when they
are in the bathroom. However, having a lock on the door and using it is good
for you on a psychological level. When you slide shut the bolt, it switches
your from mom or dad mode, into me time mode.
Lighting
Being able to create the right
ambience is important. For most people lighting is one of the most important
elements of this. So, if you do not already have dimmable lights in your
bathroom consider fitting them.
A way to play music
Music
helps the majority of us to zone out. Of course, you have to be careful because
electrics and a damp bathroom is not a good mix. The last thing you want is to
end up creating an electrocution hazard. This page lists some great ways to listen to
the music in the bathroom, and do safely.
A fast-filling tub
One reason people give for not
taking baths is that it takes too long to fill the tub. Often they get home
from work and only have a limited time before they need to take the kinds
somewhere, so do not have time to run a full bath and soak.
You can find everything you need to
resolve this problem at the bathroom store. They sell water pumps, fast flow
taps and other specialist items, and are happy to advice you about whether they
are suitable for use in your home.
