I’ve taken the past couple of months off from blogging – a move I didn’t exactly plan, but which has proven to be really useful to me. Sometimes it’s good, I think, to just step back and take a look around – at where you are, where you’ve been, where you’re going (or want to go.) That’s what I’ve done in regard to various areas of my writing life recently.
I’m ready to resume blogging now though (I miss it!) But here’s the thing: I have a feeling – a strong one that I can’t shake – that it’s time for a fresh start. This is sort of a life thing…but it apparently has trickled into my feelings about blogging as well!
It seems a little silly in regard to blogging. I mean, a totally fresh start entails losing followers, for one thing. Not everyone will follow me, certainly, into a new space. And moving seems like an extreme move when I consider that it’s not that I’m going to be writing about very different topics than I have before. I’ve refined my focus a little bit, but that’s more a difference in my own head; I don’t imagine it’ll be overwhelmingly discernible otherwise.
And the practical thing, I know, would be to just re-work THIS blog – change the template, purge some of the pages and posts, etc. The problem with that is that, quite honestly, it feels like a TASK…and one I’m not overly excited to embark upon. I don’t care enough to do the work – and that’s because the thing I really want to do, the thing that really intrigues me (however impractical) is the concept of starting a new blog, a new project, from scratch.
I’ve finally decided to stop fighting the urge and just go with it! Why not???
So, I’m going to be slowly migrating my way over to a brand new blog space. I’ll be moving a few of the posts over from this blog that I want to keep – the posts I particularly like, or that are particularly meaningful to me – and re-posting them into the new space. But when I’m done with that, I’ll shut this done.
I finally built the new space yesterday (started to, anyway) and made my first publication there last night. (And that post, incidentally, lays out how my perception of myself as a writer has changed…which is the key, I think, as to why this “fresh start” thing is so powerful to me right now.)
So basically, this is my last post here!!
(All other new blogging material I produce will be posted in the new space from here on out.)
