Being a self-published author isn’t as easy as people would think. It takes a certain knowledge beyond writing to be successful in this field. However once you understand how the business works it becomes quite easy to successfully self-publish your work. I’m going to talk about two self-published authors who’s became best sellers. The first is someone writes teen romance fiction. Her name is Amanda Hocking. A young woman whose gotten a degree in creative writing. Her original goal wasn’t to be an author but after she failed to find a good job she decided to make her own work as a self-published author. The next is one you all may have heard of. E L James, author of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Now don’t get me wrong I’m not really a fan of neither of their work, but they both are very inspirational to me. Being a self-published author requires you to know the business side of the industry. Know your target audience. Both of these authors are very knowledgeable about their market.
Amanda Hocking has targeted teens. She writes supernatural romance novels similar to the twilight saga. She started with very little money, and knew the right investments towards her books. She utilized different types of social media to help build her fan-base to get more interest in her book. She understood the time and patients it takes. Many people entering in business expect to gain overnight success. Not understanding the sacrifices it’ll cost.
E L James, was also inspired by the twilight Saga but her books are for a more mature audience. Of course she had a little more money to invest then Amanda did but still she put in the time and effort. She also knew her audience. The biggest part of having a successful business is knowing your audience and how to market to them. These two authors are interesting and inspirational to us all.
