BeachesBritain has some beautiful coastline and beaches, many of which have a variety of activities for children and adults. Additionally, finding somewhere to stay by the sea has never been easier, whether you’re after a cosy caravan break or a cute holiday cottage.Newquay is a must if your family is animal-mad, as you’re more likely to see dolphins here than anywhere else in the UK. The Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre runs boat trips, so you can get up close and personal with dolphins, porpoises, seals and marine birds.Lyme Regis is a traditional seaside town on the Dorset coast, which is great for dinosaur fans as you can find loads of fossils here. You can try to spot them on your own, or book a guided tour for a better chance. There are also plenty of rock pools, plus the town is full of shops and cafes. Bamburgh in Northumberland not only boasts a massive beach, it has a 12th century castle as well. You can drive across the causeway to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and sample the monks’ mead (adults only of course). If the kids look bored when you suggest visiting the nearby Alnwick Castle, tell them it’s where most of the outside scenes of Harry Potter were filmed.HeritageYou may not think that historical sites would appeal to children but the following two spots might prove you wrong.Ironbridge in Shropshire, is the birthplace of the industrial revolution and has no less than ten museums telling the story. Don’t miss the Victorian Town (where you can dress up and immerse yourself) and the Science Museum (plenty of hands-on exhibits). For a great spot in Yorkshire where you have a plethora of different activities, Pickering is ideal. It’s located between Scarborough, Whitby, Helmsley and Malton, set in beautiful scenery. Two of the best attractions when visiting Pickering with a family are the North Yorkshire Moors (steam) Railway and Flamingoland Theme Park & Zoo. Working FarmIf you like the idea of staying in a safari tent or a ‘treehouse’, why not visit Lochhouses Farm in East Lothian, Scotland? The children will love the animals near their tent: bunnies, lambs in spring, ducks, chickens and ponies, which they can feed. When they’re bored with that, they can go play on the stunning beach and explore the rock pools. It really is possible to have a great family holiday in the UK, where every member, regardless of age, can have a memorable experience.
