Understanding Different Carpet Fibres

One of the key components involved in selecting carpet is an understanding of how it’s made, as different carpet fibres have different characteristics. Before selecting a carpet, it’s best to go to a showroom like your local Flooring America to figure out which type is right for your room’s style. Below are a few different types of carpet material as well as the pros and cons of each:
  •          Wool: Wool is a durable and strong carpet choice as it is elastic and resilient and it’s great for heavy traffic. However, wool carpeting can be expensive and very sensitive to some cleaning materials.
  •          Nylon: Nylon is one of the most common materials used in carpeting. Nylon carpet is abrasion resistant, surpassing wool, and can handle heavy traffic. However, nylon can fade from certain cleaning materials.
  •          Polyester: Polyester is resistant to bleaching and fading, but isn’t as durable as other carpet choices. Polyester is great for lower traffic areas.
  •         Olefin: Olefin is moisture resistant, difficult to stain, and even great for outdoor applications. However, olefin isn’t a resilient fiber and may not regain its original shape when crushed.

Before you settle for the perfect carpet option, consider learning about the different fiber materials that exist. It’s important to keep room traffic and lifestyle in mind when choosing a carpet for your home.  This is a partnered post.
