Updating My iPhone PLUS a Video of Steve Jobs!

Posted on the 14 October 2011 by Actuallystrange @ActuallyStrange

If aliens came to earth and observed western society for a few days, or even just a few hours on public transit, I believe that they’d think that technology is our life force and that without it we would die.

Everyone is connected to their phones, including me. I recently went outside without my phone for the first time years. I felt like I was in danger. I need my phone to keep me safe and to keep me connected with people. I guess you could say that my phone is like my child.

I’m currently in the process of updating said child with the newest iPhone update. It’s taking forever. You know how the timers on downloads always lie?

Computer: This download is just going to take thirty seconds more!

Me: That’s great because this is kind of slowing down my computer.

Computer: Did I say thirty? I meant to say fifty.

Me: I guess that’s ok…

Computer: Actually, it’s only going to take five seconds!

Me: That’s great, I…

Computer: Just two more minutes!

Me: Wait, what?

Computer: Ten seconds!

Me: You have no idea what the actual time left is, do you?

Computer: No, I don’t.

iTunes actually warned me that the update will take one hour. I really hope it’s worth it…The problem with owning an iPhone is that you can hold off on getting the newer version for a few phones but then the updates stop supporting your hardware. I’m going to wait for my contract to run out and then wait for what will most likely be the iPhone 6. As of right now, I have the iPhone 4 and I’m pretty happy with it, but the update can only make it better, right?

I helped someone install the update on their phone yesterday and I would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me as to why the iPhone needs to know the owner’s birthday. It just seemed kind of random to me, but I’m not a technological wizard. I’m above average in my knowledge of computer’s but if I need a serious problem fixed, I send the computer back to Future Shop and let them deal with it.

Right now I’m doing a virus scan on my computer. It found something, which I’m happy about. I didn’t want the virus scan to come up clean because I would have had no idea why my computer has been so slow recently.

The iPhone update is downloading. I have thirty seconds to back out and do this tomorrow…but I might as well get it over with now.

iTunes is preparing my phone for backup. I already uploaded important notes and photos so I’m not worried…expect I’m pretty sure it’s going to clean out my music library…oh well, I hated most of the songs in there anyway.

I going to study while I wait for this to be finished. I’ll let you guys know later if this update is as awesome as I’m hoping it’ll be! In the meantime, here’s a video of Steve Jobs giving a speech to graduates at Stamford (it made me cry):
