Updating Your Living Room Quickly & Easily

Most families spend the vast majority of their time at home in the living room. That is certainly the case in our house - the living room is the heart of the home, it's where we all gather together at the end of each day to chill out, watch some TV and chat about our days. For this reason, it's the room that I always focus on most when it comes to keeping it looking fresh and inviting.  Fortunately, doing so need not take a huge amount of time and effort. Often, making some small changes is enough. Here are a few ideas I like to use to update our living room quickly and easily, without splashing too much cash.Give windows a new lookIf your curtains or blinds are looking a bit dated, updating or replacing them can make a HUGE difference to the overall look of the room. It could be as simple as trimming your existing ones with another fabric or ribbon,  creating some modern tie-backs or if you fancy something new then be sure to See the amazing Yorkshire Fabric Shop range which has a stunning collection to suit all tastes and budgets. If you're feeling especially creative you can even transform some of the panes into stained glass style windows. It is amazing what a difference this simple change makes to the quality of the light in a room and, therefore, the ambience.
Order yourself some new pictures or change the framesJust updating your photos into new frames can make all the difference to the look and feel of a room, we recently replaced all of our black frames with rose gold ones and I love the fresh look its given us.
You could also try adding a new photo collection wall, or updating your existing prints - I like to do this fairly often as the children get older, just to keep it up to date.
Update your soft furnishingsWe recently bought a neutral coloured sofa so that we can change the color scheme of our living room simply by changing the accent pieces such as blankets, cushions and ornaments. We started the year with blush pink accents to compliment our gray sofa and walls, then changed to a nice mustard tone in the summer....we're now thinking of changing it again for the winter season.
When it comes to your sofa, you may need to be a bit more creative. If it is a popular model, finding professionally made replacement covers online is not difficult. For less common or older models you may be better off simply replacing it or buying some throws to cover it.
Re-arrange your furnitureChanging the layout of your room is another way to change its look and feel. It is also worth removing items of furniture that you rarely use. Doing this really opens up the room and gives it a more modern, minimalist, feel.

The above are just a few simple ideas, I hope they're of use. What are your top tips for updating your living room on a budget?
