…use the Force

In these final days of 2016, which many view as a truly terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year, I’ve tried my hardest to give the year some credit and the benefit of the doubt. But today, I’m calling it. 2016, you are officially the worst…

Today we lost another beloved entertainment icon as Carrie Fisher passed away at age 60.

For young girls looking for a character to identify with in a sea of male sci-fi heroes, Princess Leia was a beacon of female strength and leadership ahead of her time.

Beyond “Star Wars,” Carrie Fisher was a force for feminism brought light and awareness to mental illness and addiction by sharing her own battles with both.

She was truly the beginning of “girl power” (no offense to the Spice Girls), and a serious force of nature who will be sorely missed.

“I am the beginning with ‘girl power’— deal with it.”

Carrie Fisher
