Volunteer

Nothing brings more joy than to brighten someone's life with kindness. It doesn't always require money to do something for someone. Time, love and a listening ear work just as well. I have wonderful memories of you reading to your Grandma. Compassion for others is very important and I am glad you are naturally kind. I still remember, how, when you were three years old, you insisted in distributing sweets to the construction workers near our place, the people at the home for the aged and the street workers who clean our area. We made several batches of your favorite sweet and set out to give them to "your" people. When we asked you why, you said they were all your friends.

I always feel happy when you volunteer to help with housework, especially when you do your chores cheerfully.

There is so much value in volunteering. I am glad you realize it. While I know you are always ready to help and share what you have, do you know why volunteering rocks?

Volunteering...

  • connects you with others
  • brings new experiences
  • encourages you to attempt new things
  • is good for your soul and your personal growth
  • brings learning
  • makes you feel great when you make a difference in someone's life
  • builds your relationship skills
  • improves your communication
  • makes you more self-confident
  • keeps you healthy!
  • makes you happier and feel fulfilled

Yes, volunteering also includes random acts of kindness!

As always, try your best to give without expecting anything in return. That's the most valuable gift!

Today's inspiration is a lovely passage from H. K. Challoner's book The Path of Healing. Absorb and enjoy!

We each have a unique part to play, and we should try to discover what our contribution is meant to be. We should try to discover what specific color we should be painting into the shining multi-colored picture represented by all humanity. We should try to discover what type of thread we are being called upon to weave into the tapestry of humanity. We should try to discover what note we should be sounding and finding our own place in the movement of the dancers upon the floor of life. What note are we sounding? Our speech and actions are the poetry of our soul. If the human soul is on a pilgrimage and its journey is from the limited perspective of the personal to the universal, doesn't this mean that our task is to become more conscious of life, the one life operating in all, whatever the form? By living a life that is caring, we take responsibility for our own thoughts words, we are assisting in the evolution of all life. When we take responsibility for our thoughts, words, and actions, we perform a healing and nurturing act. By giving and receiving love, we are nourishing our souls and serving all life.

Is that not the truth?
