Walking Tall

Walking Tall

We visited the Andaman Islands a few weeks ago. The trip was fascinating as it was different from the usual destination we pick - invariably somewhere in the hills. This time we thought, why not a change from the usual.

We had been planning to visit the Andaman Islands for years now and things came together this year. Even though it was the monsoon season, we went ahead and booked our trip.

There's something so charming about walking around on the beach when it is drizzling! We had thought of carrying raincoats but didn't want to get baked in them, but since the temperatures were soaring, we settled on carrying umbrellas.

Here I am, walking tall in the betelnut plantation at Havelock Island.

The trees bend to caress me
The shade hugs my heart"

Of all the wonderful experiences we had, one was the sight of betelnut plantations as we drove across the islands. It was so beautiful to see the trees standing tall, thin and straight-miles and miles of them.

Finally, on Havelock Island, we just had to stop and spend some time with them. I have a thing for trees and my son often teases me asking me what I will do with all the photos I click.

Of course, we took photos. Had to rely mostly on the phone camera because the lens on the digital camera kept getting misty because of the humidity and I managed to get very few good photos.

It's amazing how they stand strong in spite of the heavy winds. I mean, life is not so easy on the islands and yet, nothing can take away the natural beauty.

"Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky."

Kahlil Gibran

And so, we spent the better part of an hour just walking among these trees. Yes, walking tall, just listening to the sound of the wind and the distant waves. What a memorable day!
